"STEALING" now means "SHARING."
Here's some Brit who figures owning a book means it can be "SHARED." And, well, why not SOLD, too?
"Pip pip, Cheerio. Just making a few copies. Don't get your knickers in a twist. I'm ENTITLED, you know. I bought the book, so it's MINE to do with as I please."
People think this way now. The Internet has conditioned people to believe illegal downloads are a part of life, and copyright doesn't exist, really. Not when you own a copy. Then you have the right to copy it. See?
"Tosh! Go on, this isn't illegal at all. I see people do it on EBAY all the time. Why shouldn't I?"
"Who care? Whatever we got we SHARE. Just give me a few quid for my trouble. Writing a two line AD is hard work! And you must pay me for my time in uploading a link and sending it. And EBAY and PAYPAL want their cut of about 82 cents, so I clear three dollars. Seems fair to ME."
"I have only a few books I bought, so I'm making copies to recoup my investment. That seems fair to ME."
"Did I say a I bought the books? Oh. Well, IF I'M BEING HONEST, I downloaded them off a forum. But every now and then I fancy a packet of crisps and a good dark beer. I'm doing no harm."
"And I only have THREE titles for sale on eBay. At the moment. It's a fine life."
